Darker cover. Mix is different than the released version. I noticed that on "Wooden Ships" there is a big difference in volume between right and left during the call and response part. "Can I have some of your purple berries?" on the right channel is much lower on this version. Probably got remixed on the next pressing.

Comparing this to a standard US copy I had (I got rid of it) this is just superior. It sounds much clearer where the US copy is dark, and muddy. The Nautilus is just a wonderful audiophile edition.

Hi everybody. What's mean DCW? And how this one good is?

"DCW" as a suffix on the matrix numbers of Atlantic/ATCO Records pressings stands for "Decca Custom West," which means that the vinyl was pressed at the MCA Pressing Plant in Pinckneyville, Illinois (previously the Decca Records Pressing Plant, Pinckneyville until purchased by MCA in 1966 when it changed names). This pressing plant closed in 2007.

This Bernie Grundman issue along with his HENDRIX : "ARE YOU EXPERIENCED" MONO issue are the worst sounding reissues I have ever heard. This is just DOO DOO, all hype & nothing like the marvelous sound of the originals!

Curious do you have the Music on Vinyl cut of the Are You Experienced? That is supposed to be an inferior version, I agree that pressing sounded very muffled and my copy was littered with pops and crackle. But I love this issue of CSN and have yet to hear an original that didn't have a high end that made my ears bleed. The vocal blending is super clear and that's what seems to be the biggest challenge with getting this record right. It's no audiophile marvel but I think that's just the nature of the original recording itself.

A surprisingly good pressing. I can only assume it was from a run of lacquers from the master tape. Everything that can be good about a pressing is here-tonal balance, individual instruments not lost in the mix but not overpowering either, presence, lovely fidelity. Everything about this pressing sings.

By far the funniest mis-spellings from Korea. My used record store was near Fort Hood, Texas. We saw thousands of these low quality Korean pressings. In 1977 I had a copy of this record with the title misspelled. The title was: "Crosby, Stills, & Hash." I wish I had saved it.

So much timeless music came out in and around the year 1969, and one of the seminal albums, for both its innovative sound, character and quality, was the first Crosby, Stills & Nash release. Looking back at the cover, I can only wonder if I was ever so young, and if I didn’t have the pictures to prove it, I may have dismissed those years as nothing more then a dream.So ... I could talk about the groups these amazing artists sprang from, but you all know those stories. Or I could talk about the splendid harmonies, guitar playing, and the return to the Americana music sound, but it would be much more pleasant to listen to them, then to read my words. Of course, I could always speak of the times, or the counter culture, but all of that is the stuff of history at this juncture. So where does that leave us at this point ... why with me, and the effect this album had on my life.I had just landed in Vietnam when I finally got myself a copy of this album, thought I didn’t need one, as it was playing from record players and reel to reel tape machines from every hootch ... at times the whole Base was awash in the sounds of Crosby, Stills & Nash. With this release, the world was finally to came to terms with the mighty ‘Air Guitar,’ and though it was not a very feminine, or a girlie thing to do ... you guys have NEVER experienced ‘Air Guitar’ until you have seen a woman in olive drab BDU’s [Battle Dress Uniform], left foot on her camouflaged helmet, wailing away, using a fully automatic M16 [with the safety in the ‘On’ position] as a guitar, with the music blasting to the max ... that was the one good thing about being in Vietnam, there weren’t alot of people to disturb ... and I was the undisputed champion of the ‘Air Guitar’ for the entire 44th Medical Unit. I was lightening fast on the draw, I had the power chords down, I could reel back and bow forward with my head almost touching my knees, I had blisters on my fingers, and a smile on my face ... of course we all scrambled when we heard the feedback from the rotors, as a line of choppers were circling to touch down.But even in the OR, some kind soul had made a tape mix of songs which always included, “Guinnevere,” “Wooden Ships,” “Lady Of The Island,” and of course “Helplessly Hoping,” ... Don't know what to make of my copy with the exact same matrix/runout as this release, but with ta label that lists the &5 Rockefeller address.

OK, this EU version is exactly the same as the US version. They are both pressed in Germany by Pallas only the codes and labels are different, don't bother trying to get hold of a US copy.

Why has this got Manufactured in Germany on the labels if its a US press? Are the EU and US not one and the same thing, then?

This record from Gyldendals Bogklub, Made in Denmark, also comes in non-laminated single sleeve with fold out insert. Identical except for lamination.

It doesn't make sense that this would be a first pressing and also have a gold-record award sticker (as this listing claims). I have a copy with the exact same labels and matrix etchings, but no gold sticker on front.

This hasn't aged well, in fact it sounds very dated, and whilst it isn't as strong as the follow up album "Deja Vu" featuring Neil Young, this is still a classic and seminal album. The production is really polished with Stephen Stills as the real star playing most of the instruments, while the other two share with the song writing and trademark harmonies. I really like the feel of the album, but there's only really two of the tunes penned by Crosby, "Wooden Ships" (my favourite CSN tune and would be one of my desert island disks) and "Long Time Gone", that I really rate. "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" is OK, the rest in retrospect, is a bit weak.
