If, like me, you were a regular at Fish!/Superfish! parties back in the late 1990s/early 2000s, you would probably agree with the following comment. This is perhaps the Tinrib mix CD which best represents the type of set which was played at those long-gone but never forgotten nights. I'm still a big fan of anything Tinrib (even though this sound is now very much "of its time") and all their mix CDs were excellent, but I've always felt that most of them never really "flowed" like a set at Fish! or Superfish! did. I don't know why this one is so different, though - Max Alien Trax isn't even close to being one of my favourite DJs from those days (I loved the Alien Trax label, but I never really "followed" him as a DJ as such) so I'm completely unbiased here. It's not that he was a bad DJ (he wasn't), he just wasn't someone I would actively seek out at the raves. But when I play this CD, I feel just like I'm in the middle of that crowd at Crash! or The Fridge. Come to think of it, if they had decided to call this CD "4am at Superfish!", they wouldn't have been wrong to do so. Tracks like "Purple Overdose" are still capable of giving me a huge adrenalin rush, which makes me feel almost like I'm in that crowd, fists pounding and rushing like crazy!Perfectly mixed, with great track selection, and capable of inducing much nostalgia, this is one of the CDs I put on when I'm getting ready to attend an (increasingly rare, sadly) techno party - when this one came out, raving/DJing was a part-time career/lifestyle, but in 2016, it's going to be another SIX WEEKS before I can hear some proper music in a dodgy venue - what went wrong?? lol This also seems to be one of the hardest-to-find Tinrib CDs, so I suspect that a lot of people have decided to hang on to this one more than the others, so perhaps I am not alone in my opinions? Whatever the reason for its scarcity, speaking as a longtime fan of Tinrib and similar labels, I would recommend this one, without question, to anyone who doesn't own a copy already.
