Dead Or Alive - Youthquake mp3 album

Everyone probably knows by now, but there are 2 versions of this album. The Version with the bonus tracks & the version without them. The version with the bonus tracks is also Know as the CD version & it has slight differences then the regular album version. It has 2 bonus tracks with are the 12" Extended versions of you Spin Me Round (performance mix) & lover Come Back To Me (Extended Version/ Mix). The other difference is that you Spin Me Round, cake & eat it & it's been a Long Time all have vocal intros (cake & eat it actually has the unfaded intro in the beginning). This kinda makes up for this release because releasing a version with just 2 Extended versions isn't that great, but the intros to me make the album go together more smoothly. Cake & eat it should have been like this on every release, I personally hated the intro where it fades in slowly. It gives you the full instrumental intro, which just sounds way more cool to me. Also just so people know the only single Versions on this album are you Spin Me & lover Come Back. Technically lover Come Back is different then it's original Single Mix, but it's only slightly & the version used in the music videos is the album mix. In Too Deep was remixed for its single release along with my Heart Goes Bang. My Heart Goes Bang was rerecorded for its single release & remixed. It's the only song that is almost completely different from the album mix, almost making the album version look / sound like a demo version. I'm not sure if In Too Deep was rerecorded? I know they sometimes rerecorded vocals for the single versions slightly so it would only be a little if it was.

Remastered on BSCD2 same as the 1994 reissue & the original cassette versions. Track 6 & 11 Are Bonus Tracks

Is there really a difference in sound ? Does this sound different than the regular CD ?

There are slight differences between the US and the EU-versions: some US tracks misses a few seconds of vocal intros and have no bonus tracks.

Another 1985 release, another hit. It's great S-A-W release before Kylie/Rick era... At least 3 quite big hits - "You Spin Me Round" still has the BIG groove, "Lover Come Back To Me" & "My Heart Goes Bang" plus "Big Daddy Of The Rhythm" and "In Too Deep" makes this alum very interesting also today.

Even with the over spun (pun intended) single "You Spin Me Round" this album remains Dead Or Alive's shining moment. The melodies harkened to the earliest tracks (78-81) which still need to see the light of day in an official release capacity. "Youthquake" captures the hi-energy that stung right before New Beat hit in Europe. Every single on this album is powerful. But the album tracks are the gratifying moments. In my opinion the original two part version (maybe as a whole) of "Misty Circles" could fit in perfectly on this disc. The inclusion of the Performance mix of SMR is kind of unnecessary but it is a decent version. The full length 12" Murder Mix while long is still the best version of the track, perfect for club play. Little bonuses on this remaster is the addition of little vocal tidbits: "Rock it" added to the original mix of SMR (track one) - which oddly stems from track two - "I Wanna Be A Toy". The Performance Mix is the extended mix that should have been on "Rip It Up". "You Can Be The First In Line" is added to the beginning of "It's Been A Long Time"- it's subtle. And then the Extended Mix of "Lover Come Back To Me" which should have also been on "Rip It Up" is added at the end. The parody is that on "Rip It Up" the "Rock It" is at the beginning of this track. All this aside it doesn't seem very necessary as the original record is perfectly fine without all the additions. In fact it probably stands better (less "remixish"). This album could still use a volume boost in a remaster for todays standards, but stands the test of time as far as a smart pop album with hooks that have influenced many artists.
