Notes
Notes:An album in three parts. The first three tracks elaborate on the style introduced in Ghost Sickness, with "Thaxted" in particular being a deconstruction of the percussion and filtered white noise of that album's "Midwinter Isle". The title track, which uses a processed sample of David Foster Wallace reading his "A Radically Condensed History of Postindustrial Life", is built around two triadic arpeggio ostinati, one played at 40bpm and the other at 40.5bpm. These ostinati are joined by timestretched duplicates that become increasingly independent in rhythm and pitch, giving the piece the form of diatonic arpeggiation blossoming into a microtonal cloud. "Vom Strande", titled after (the Brahms setting of) Eichendorff's poem, is built from heavily-processed samples of Ockeghem's Missa Cuiusvis Toni.
