Dorilune
BERLIN 13 sees Federico Aubele extending his reach even more internationally. Though "Berlin" still has Spanish lyrics and Argentinian guitar strumming layered over dub beats, you can hear something new brewing. Things come to a head with the gorgeous "Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue," which introduces some gypsy elements as well as a glitchy guitar into a melancholy atmosphere. Aubele also delves more into house rhythms: "In Your Name" has a solid 4/4 and a spacy, almost campy background, though Aubele's vocals keep things centered, while "Kreuzberg" wavers somewhere between the dancefloor and outer space. The slow "Lágrimas Viejas" is dreamy and ephemeral, while the reverb-laced "13" puts in a slightly harder thump. The more abstract "El Miedo" closes out the album on a solid note, making for a mysterious and thoroughly fascinating listen.
