FROM THE TIME I first heard her lovely voice in 'Lone Justice' back in 1986 (Shelter) - effectively capturing my attention with everything she put her pen & voice to. Perhaps her most adventurous album to date, Maria has sculpted a testimonial of strength thru disappointments and crisis. Collaborating with Bruce Brody and David Nolte on several songs, 'Life Is Sweet,' changes the dynamics compared to 1993's 'You Gotta Sin to Get Saved' embracing a more visceral guitar bash backed by string arrangements that bring her a safe distance away from sterile beauty and commercial commonity. There's a unity in Maria's music that weds her inner-self with those around her and it all comes out in her musical vision. Maybe that accounts for the theatrics this time out. A varied (noisier) work that is different from anything she has previously done. A bold move from a bold women... bang a gong.
