Thomeena
An engrossing trip through futuristic ambient-techno, acid, IDM and ambient/noise. Disc 1, Nuclear, is the more beat-driven of the two, and therefore the more immediately accessible. The sounds are bleak throughout, with barely a hint of melody, so the tracks rely on texture and layers for substance. There's a menacing overtone to the whole thing, so this is definitely not a disc to chill to. Taken in the right mood, though, it’s capable of transporting you to someplace wholly alien.Disc 2, Abyss, takes the foreboding mood even deeper (as the title suggests) and focuses on largely beatless soundscapes ranging from tense, minimal ambience to speaker-ripping noise. It has a good sense of continuity and flow, even though the tracks don’t often directly segue into one another, so it’s an easy disc to get lost in. Again, not for all moods or tastes, but if you like cold, mechanical, sci-fi ambience, then this side (and really the album as a whole) won’t disappoint.
