Eric Johnson , Mike Stern - Eclectic mp3 album

This is an exciting recording, the result of an enormously successful collaboration between two virtuosi, rock guitarist Eric Johnson and jazz guitarist Mike Stern. Eric Johnson's name is familiar to me although his playing is not, whereas both Mike Stern's name and playing are well known. On "Eclectic", their playing and signature guitar sounds are complimentary, comfortably laying one on top of the other. Each of the twelve tracks is quite musical, performed with gusto and never boring, and show off Johnson and Stern's formidable "chops." Chris Maresh playing acoustic and electric bass, and Anton Fig on drums and percussion fill out the sound. The supporting musicians, including Stern's wife, Leni, playing the n'goni and singing on a couple of tracks, provide additional texturing to the sound. "Eclectic" is a fine recording and, perhaps, the starting point of a new collaboration between two equally matched musicians.
