Mr.Champions
"Bird of Paradise" is an absolutely beautiful piece of relaxed music. This has a young Miles Davis on his muted trumpet and Max Roach is on the drums. Parker is credited for inventing Bebop which is a wild and fast genre of music, but this number is really relaxed and mellow. Since the middle of the 40s things developed away from big band orchesters and towards smaller Jazz combos. At least this is my understanding of that time, I wasn't born yet for a couple of decades. Only the 78 shellac will present this music to your ears as it was supposed to sound like. The 45 was invented the year before and the LP format was introduced in the same year (1949). Shellac was still important during the 50s, but was slowly replaced by vinyl formats (45s & LPs) in the same frame of time.Do not listen on a Grammophone to Shellac. Buy a 78 stylus for electric playback and be amazed by the deepness and the exeptional dynamics of that format. You can crank-up the amplifier to no end, you still want it to be louder. There are no harsh mid or harsh high frequent sounds with this format, just pure music and a very solid bass foundation.
