Pilgrims Of The Mind - What's Your Shrine? mp3 album

I have to highly disagree with user Sam Pope below. This is a house influenced album more so than some trance or prog house side. Him comparing timeless sounds to digweeds northern exposure just shows that. The melodies are whimsicle and carefree while at other times magical with quality tones that compliment. Hardly cheesy at all. In fact this leans much more towards deep house than the person who added this discogs described. Its no wonder why Pilgrims of Mind is finally getting underground recognition. Quality album and deserves vinyl. Very ahead of its time

With this album I find that Stephane Novak is excellent at what he does, he is a marvelous musician! This whole production is very enigmatic and contains many different styles of music. My personal favorite would have to be "Sandcastle", I first heard this song in a radiostation called Starstreams a few years back and ever since then, I've searched for it endlessly. Finally when I got my hands on it, Pilgrims of the Mind became my favorite artist. This album is timeless! I belive that anyone with an ambient collection should own this piece of heaven that Novak has provided for us. So far I seem to be in love with each and every song and it will remain that way for me. Maybe some time in the near future, Novak will lighten his heart and bless us with a second album, we shall see...

I heard another production by Pilgrims of the Mind, called "Good Morning Angel" on Moontribe's compilation Sound Without Walls. I instantly fell in love with every detail of the song from it's lush melodic intro to it's pulsing groove and acidy synth line. I searched for more of his work online and found this. An original production from 1997, that unfortunately, hasn't aged well (and may actually sound a little older than it actually is). All of the tunes are down tempo with elements of acid jazz, ambient, and trip hop mixed in. The result is some interesting grooves layered with chimes of ambient melody. The problem is, the sounds he uses are just cheesy at times. Perhaps it's just my personal tastes here, but I'm pretty sure others would agree if they listened. The synths and melodies don't have a timeless quality that make them enjoyable several years after their release. An example of this ageless quality would be Sasha & John Digweed's Northern Exposure, which almost sounds like it could have been released yesterday instead of 1996. Be that as it may, there are still some good tunes on here. My personal favorite being "L'Amour? Encore?" with it's slow patient groove, and shimmering melodies. "Nothing Can Pull Us Apart" and "Something's Pulling Me Under" are also good, the former being a jazzy number that's actually been featured on several chill-out compilations, and the later dropping a bass line so catchy you'll be hard pressed not to start bobbing your head along with it. The rest of the tunes however, are mostly decent, if not a little lackluster. A disapointment considering the quality of the song that originally inspired me to purchase this album.
