This Cassette is the soundtrack of my childhood. My father bought it in early 1984, probably at some record store in Cilegon or Jakarta, and it seemed to be a favourite among locals and quickly became one for my family as well. We listened to this compilation over and over during our mini van outings across Java, with palm trees flying by outside the windows or while driving to the beach. Warm memories of sun-drenched happy days. Remarkable how different this is from where Lobo originally came, location-wise and thematically. So out of context and still, so musically fitting for us.I've never heard of the artist Lobo before, and even later, I've never encountered his name in Europe anywhere. "I'd Love You To Want Me" or "Me And You And A Dog Named Boo", overlooked marvels of songwriting and instrumentation.Years later, while on family vacation in Europe, the cassette was stolen along with our car's stereo radio. We never regreted the device being nicked, but mourned the loss of the cassette. Over the years, we often remembered how much we liked it and the strange way we eventually lost it. Until yesterday. While digging through old cassettes, this copy suddenly fell into my hands. And instead of an empty case, there it was: the old BASF Ferro tape! I don't know how that happened. Was my memory fooling me and we only thought we lost the tape while on vacation? Or did my father buy a second copy while we were in Indonesia? Anyway, I'm glad Lobo's music came into my life. And the story of how the original recording returned is somewhat supernatural.
