Nasty Habits - Shadow Boxing / Prototyped mp3 album

A Top 10 of my few private Jungle DnB gems.

Mental dark tripping music absolutely wicked what a buzz ;-)

So Doc Scott gives us the amazing Here Comes The drums and then a few years later this. Such a darkly voyage is this one son! I remember DJing at an out door illegal rave some years back and I mixed this epic tune into another equally sonic journey which was DJ Trace- Mutant Revisited. The combined mix certainly tranced out the crowd (whether they knew what the hell was going on or not?! P.s. never forget Prototyped as that is a bad bwoy tune!

Probably but cannot be to sure. Two great landmark tunes on one heavy 12" record!

Isn't Prototyped like a tribute to Grooverider ? The name... and the "Inta Naty" sample ! :)

Dark stuff here. A Heavywight Jungle all time classic tune.

Dark + deadly... I was never a huge fan of the darkcore, darkness element of jungle around the mid nineties. Shadow Boxing however is a class tune and still kicks today. Straightforward but simple... heavy and grooving. Changed the game slightly as jungle was veering off in different directions with the various styles around.Some people won't get Shadow Boxing (I remember my parents shouting to turn the amp volume down!) but it's a nice piece to own. Cool trippy start, tough two step beats followed by dark melodies and bass which I imagine *many* people went nuts to back in the day.Reasonably priced on Discogs so break the mould and dive in...

you are so right about " *many* people went nuts to back in the day."... it sounds funny today, but back then did was a eveil motha fucka in a club ;-)

always remember what a friend of mine said on his first listen - 'this is the sort of tune you listen to if you were doing a drive by'... not sure what was on his agenda that evening but it sums up this tune nicely... respect to doc scott

Dark as you can get. So simple so deadly and still sounds fresh. Love the way the bass just comes in gradually, so creepy. Doc Scott is a genius.

AA side is cool too.

An outstanding track that easily could be described as a game changer in dnb. This one made the 2-step beat popular over the typical amen beats and still is the base for almost every jump up track nowadays.Useless to say that this is a creeper as soon as the darkness slowly comes growling over you. One of the commenters said "eight years old and peeps still get their groove on when they hear this!!! " - it has been now 18 yrs and this one still goes off!!!! Simply a Masterpiece!

How can I tell if the one I got was a test press? It didn't come with a sheet. I was told it was a test press, but is there anything different about it compared to the regular white labels?

The Test Press versions are usually on a heavier guage vinyl than the promo and general release versions. I have Test Press versions of other 31 Record releases and they are significantly thicker and sturdier in comparison to the the promo and release which are noticably thinner when compared against a TP.

This is a classic in every sense of the word, sharp beats echo through the room and you know something is not right, before you know it the dreaded soundscape appears and you try to turn and run but it's too late! The bass has grabbed you and the tune is just tearing you apart! No seriously this is a dark dark tune and an absolute destroyer. 10/10

This stuff also matched well with techno mixes. THE best.

An amazing track that will always be a timeless drum n bass classic- heard it dropped in AWOL last year in London and it delivered the crowd reaction it always did back in the day- one for every jungle/ dnb DJ's box for sure- simple but so so good!

So simple, yet so effective. Doc Scott created another master piece with this one.

I was at Tribal Gathering (I think), 1996, standing in front of a wall of speakers to one side of the stage, enjoying myself, like you do, when this sound started growing inside my brain. My head was then ripped clean off my shoulders! Words are still hard to find! It was the first time I ever heard Shadow Boxing and its the only thing I still remember from that night. Doc Scott was on the decks.

In my estimation this is possibly the best drum & bass tune ever written. Supposedly produced in only one night. Shadow Boxing is a slowly building piece of brooding music that seems to transpose itself from within the confines of the drum and bass world. Its dark soundscape is transfixed on sending a message of a looming future, distraught with decay, slowly moving toward an inescapable, imminent destruction. Shadow Boxing, similar to many early no u turn releases, is concerned with ambience and the creation of tension bordering on the lines of total chaos. It's heavy and dark, yet subdued in a manner which implies control and relevance, something far too often lacking in post-millennium drum & bass. Shadow Boxing is a track that once heard, never escapes your mind, borrowing itself deep within, reminding you that the future is uncertain and the past is distant and fading.

Wow, it was a massive bassline for me untill i came across this review, now its an epic production that tells a story. Im now off to read the rest of this fella/lady's reviews. Wheres the owners name?

Small wonder that a great dj such as Laurent Garnier had chosen this one for his favourite tune of the 1996. Everytime when played, THE Bassline comes in and doesn't leave anything untouched in radius of approx. 1000000 light years! Supported with a rough, rugged and raw sounding 2-step beat - this one has it all! Those were the days when 31 had started to reign supreme with the each next 12" better than the one before... at least until 31R017 release.

In the DnB Chronicles this tune is a milestone, Mr McIlroy really dropped jaws with this floor filla! A must hav tune for all DnB Ed's, eight years old and peeps still get their groove on when they hear this!!! Respect

Amazing what can be done with like 5 sounds. The whole thing is just one loop over and over but it's so hypnotic...never gets boring for a second. Doc Scott on the forefront of things again.

This is the early definition of a bassline monster. A slow twisted twostep beat, a kung-fu sample and the darkest, deepest and mightiest bassline i´ve ever heard. The blood freezes in your veins for the next minutes. I´ve played this tune in front of a few ass shakin´ house suckas and pop music fans and their breath was taken away... For many people i know this is the only drum`n`bass track they really like... You´re having problems with D`n`B ??? Check dis tune !
