I had long looked for this album on vinyl and this year I finally could get hold of a copy.Counting the first two albums with Eric Burdon, this is War's fifth overall effort and it's clearly their most acclaimed, even securing a spot on Rolling Stone's famed '500 albums' list. While critical acclaim doesn't always tell the curious a lot about the qualities of an album, in this case every raving review you will stumble across is correct. 'The World Is A Ghetto' shines all the way through, delivering six terrific jams with every single one highlighting the individual talents within the band, be it B.B. Dickerson's crispy bass on the opener 'The Cisco Kid' or Harold Brown's extraordinary percussion on extended jams such as the pulsating 13-minute mini-epic 'City Country City'. This LP, released in 1976 on Island Records UK, provides a rich and highly dynamic soundstage, delivering the groovy bass of 'Cisco Kid' with the same excellence as the rather high-going 'Four Cornered Room'. It's a thick disc typical of the time, my copy bears faint surface noise but this is non-audible during the tracks. If you can manage to find this pressing, go for it! It's amazing.

You know what? I just can't believe, that as of 1/25/18, Thirteen people rated this classic masterpiece as a "1". - A "1" may as well be a "0" in my book. An absolutely worthless, throw-away album that has nothing of value musically, or artistically whatsoever... Tsssssh. I'm just flabbergasted... Period.

Yes....and it's also worth noting that while the record itself doesnt say "made in Canada", UA Records Limited, which is credited on the label, was an entity name that *exclusively* belonged to United Artists' Canadian department. In other words - where there is no indication of country of manufacture anywhere, anything that says "UA Records Limited" prevails in distinguishing a Canadian release.

This really is a beautiful album.

I don't often write reviews here or comment, other people on this website are much better at summarising albums' qualities, but now I feel like I have to write at least something because HOW THE HELL THERE ARE NO COMMENTS FOR THIS MASTERPIECE?For me, while the timeless title track is a stand-out here, every track contains a masterful production and is beautifully put together. The mandatory funk album to listen for every funk fan out there. "Cisko Kid" is one of my favorite album openers, "Where Was You At" is one of those tracks that makes me want to move in my seat everytime I play it. The background vocals that repeat the phrase "Where Was You At" are so DOPE. What follows after, is a remarkable 13-minute long instrumental piece 'City, Country, City" which takes you on a journey, you just need to close your eyes and let it work its magic. "Four Cornered Room" is one of the deepest tracks on this album with a slow tempo and powerful lyrics; has potential to easily induce goosebumps if you listen closely. The same potential has the title track, "The World Is A Ghetto". Well, there is no way I can easily sum up this brilliant track, I just need to say that it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It's okay if you get tears in your eyes while listening to it, there is no shame in that. For me, the most intense part is always right at the end, when the phrase The World Is A Ghetto gets repeated over and over and over with the electric guitar playing on top, while song slowly fades out. What a moment it is.

Ahhhhh, what else can be said about this masterpiece. I love this lp, but would have to say that 'All Day Music, is my favourite... I loved them both~

I grew up in this era. ....War never got the accolades or recognition for their early 70's works.... truly some of the best musicians, vocalizations & four part harmonies that you could ever hope to be privileged to hear. Thank you for your phenomenal review. Peace, my brother ~
