In the ‘70s, Sardegna was in the middle of some big social and economical changes. This beautiful Mediterranean island, full of history and gifts from nature, was just being discovered as an interesting destination for tourists. Nevertheless, it has always remained anchored to deep values and traditions. Cultural life and especially music were in a real growth and there was a huge optimism about what was going on. In 1973 Sardegna had his first label, La Strega Records, owned by an ex drummer called Marcello Mazzella. The label was pushing local rock bands without forgetting the huge Sardinian folk singers. On the island, one of the best line-ups was Gruppo 2001, led by the keabordist Piero “Salis” Marras. The band had a prog background (their only cult LP “L’alba di domani” testifies it) but crossed different musical genres (and also different members) until the partnership with La Strega Records in 1977. That was when Sardegna’s most interesting realities joined together. At that time the funky sound was “infecting” Italy and also Salis’ fellas. The result was the 7inch “Chi Sei?/Stratosfera”: two space rock gems packed in a discoish mood. The record opens with the lysergic - cosmic disco prototype - anthem Chi sei?, leaded by the vocals of Pietro Carrus and by Franco Montalbano’s Hendrix-influenced riffs on a typical disco drum beat. The real jewel, Stratosfera, was on the flipside (the dopeness was quite often on the b-side of Italy’s late ‘70s 7 inches). A Mediterranean delight filled with addictive guitars and covered by the spacey synths of Piero Salis. This is certainly the funkiest track that came out from the island! Dualismo Sound is excited to present the official reissue of the record, for the first time on a 12inch, including a dynamic edit and a special dj tool by the head of Early Sound Recordings, Pellegrino.Available also on https://dualismosound.bigcartel.com/
