This is really a wild mix EMI provides us with here. From NDW superstars (Spider Murphy Gang and Rheingold, however strangely enough not with Fan-Fan-Fanatisch, the song which the name of the compilation hints at) to three bands I had never heard of before. Lovers of minimal wave are being well served with Grauzone, Profil, Neue Jugend, Monopol and Alarm (one of the ones I hadn't heard of before) featuring the bill. Of the more unknown bands, Susi Klinger and Baujahr '82 are easily forgotten. And despite Monopol being on many want lists, "Gib Liebe her" is quite overrated a track for my taste. Neue Jugend's "Nur Mut" on the other hand is a fantastic song and it escapes me why their 7"s (Walpurgisnacht is also great) are not much more thought after. My discovery of this compilation are Alarm. Although there is quite some DAF to be heard in there, their driving track "Große Frustrationen, keine Illusionen" is definitely one of the more interesting lost NDW songs. However, I would have rather suspected to find it on a self-released tape than on an EMI compilation.
