This release, in my opinion, is one of Quiff and Spinback's most solid to date. Each side brings a different flavor to the table. Defcon 69 brings the ruffness, and Loose Ends is a tad bit lighter, but with some rough dirtiness running underneath. Defcon 69 starts off with a beautiful, airy wash of synths, reminiscent of the early "intelligent" productions of the mid-90's. Then a great sample about sonic layering and juxtaposition comes in, right before the massive riff hits and the track breaks loose. This track is heavy, but also funky as hell, with a great beat that uses some cowbells. Loose Ends uses a rising synth riff throughout to create a hypnotising effect, much like 'Synaesthasia' from the second Timeless Recordings EP. Underneath, a grimy bassline makes way for some rolling percussion, and when the second beat drops, the track finds a nice balance between heavy and light, with the melody being so spacy, but the beat being crisp and weighty. A great pair of tunes from some of the scene's godfathers. Metalheadz Platinum has come correct with every release (so far!)
