Fri, 29 Jan 10: Barbra AnneThe Courtesy Flush - yakusa mama edition Album ReviewAdam PearsonReviewed 2010-01-03 Gruff-edged, oddball Croatian singer-songwriter stuff. Percussion-less (except for last track), simplistic, rhythmic, acoustic guitar compositions with cyclic, repetitive structures and liberal use of organ and tuned percussion instruments. I hear lots of typical songwriter tendencies with E minor chords, similar tonal arrangements, and recurring little variations on simple chords. I’m not crazy about it, but this is definitely a point of contrast for your set. No FCCs.*1. Well written song with organ padding some joyous chord changes (3:48)2. Don’t know if that’s a vibraphone or what, a little more upbeat, whistling. (3:46)3. Playful, another serving of organ, sounds like a song composed by a resident summer camp ‘music guy’ who tries to get the kids involved. (2:13)4. Vocals on this one are a little more passionate, a little bit of a locked groove, organ does a little more than it does on the other tracks. (2:43)5. Maybe it’s a xylophone after all, jingly, bobby acoustic tune that is just too long. (4:41)*6. This one lacks the organ and other stuff, so I’d recommend it for a folk type show, if you’re willing to dish up some Croatian language to your listeners. (4:00)*7. Bigger production, darker, bluesy, slower march, church organs, light brushwork, electric guitar, has a cool little horror organ moment. (5:16)Track Listing1. Dobro Ti Jutro Zagrebe Zelim 4.
