It is a well-known fact that David Oistrakh used at least seven Stradivarius violins owned by the Soviet state. He settled upon the 1702 'Conte di Fontana' violin which he played for almost 10 years - it's highly probable he used it for the 1958 concert - and, from 1966 until his death, he played a 1705 'Marsick'.
