Kiaile
Akasha's first album gets a 2-disc remix rubdown on CINEMATIQUE REMIXES. The first disc is undeniably mellow: Groove Armada take the first honors with their version of "Crazy Baby," a midtempo house track with a funky breakdown at its center, while Interfearence approach "Mescalin" with a melange of dub and alternately dark and groovy breaks. "Cold Fusion" has a blissful downtempo mix courtesy of Lemonjelly, but it's RIchard Dorfmeister to smokes out the rest with his ultra-chill version of "Soft and Melting." "Brown Sugar" becomes atmospheric drum 'n' bass via PFM, and the incomparable Ian O'Brien offers up some Detroit-flavored nu-jazz in a track that morphs at the end from using the horn line of the original into a vibraphone workout. The second disc is more about the dancefloor, and Sloop John Barillo offers up some electro for our delectation on "Maximum Karma," while Les Rythmes Digitales have some electro wiggle on their otherwise spare mix of "Brown Sugar." House freaks can go buck wild with the Freaks' mix of "Spanish Fly," and those who prefer something a little more psychedelic can revel in the oddness of Menlo Park's mix of "Interzone." Salt City Orchestra give "The Blues Pt. 1" a deep, long and Arabic-tinged take, while the Akasha boys themselves remake "Crazy Baby" into a slow-burning groove, bass-heavy, like a puff off a cigar. Perfect for those lazy summer nights.
