Gentle Giant has inspired other bands. The occasional GG influence could be heard occasionally in '90s bands like Spock's Beard (particularly "Thoughts") and Echolyn. In the '70s you had the German group Epidermis with Genius of Original Force in 1977, and in Quebec you had Et Cetera and their self-entitled album from 1976 in which the Gentle Giant influence in undeniable. Several other Quebecois bands like Sloche and Maneige show a GG influence from time to time, demonstrating how well received GG's music had been in Quebec. Brazil's Terreno Baldio was often considered the Brazilian Gentle Giant. In 1976 they released their debut, and it's a great album. It's a bit more accessible than Gentle Giant, and they don't do those complex vocal harmonies, but the music is still top rate. The vocals are in Portuguese, and the occasional Brazilian influence has itself felt. The instruments are your typical prog gear: keyboards, bass, drums, and the occasional other percussion. Keyboards include Hammond organ, Mini Moog, piano, and Elka Rhapsody. Really, it's one of those hidden gems of prog rock really worthy of your collection, but the 1990s CD version was rerecorded, this time in English. I have only heard the original '70s version, so I can't comment on the '90s remake. Another great Latin American prog release worth having!
