Celso Fonseca might be one of Brazil's strongest cultural exports since Reinaldo. With his album NATURAL, he strikes just the right note between mellow jazz and bossa nova. "Bom Sinal" is all of summer in five minutes, while the stack percussion of "A Origem Da Felicidade" leads into a head-bobbing smile. Fonseca proves himself as fluent in English as he is in Portugeuse, especially when it comes to beautifully sung break-up standards like "The Night We Called It a Day." But the instrumental "Consolação" shows that he can really get down too, before "Ela E Carioca" leads us back into a mellow place. "Slow Motion Bossa Nova" delivers exactly what the title promises with characteristic flair, while name-checking other bossa nova classics. A delightful album.
