At 48 (and only at 48) Eberhard Weber started his particular journey pursuing the emancipation of his electro-acoustic double bass. A pioneer with a very personal sound, this album marks the beginning of that journey (which had its natural continuation with "Pendulum" five years later in 1993). Pure ECM sound (mind that Mr Weber could be included on the list of the few musicians who actually define the well-known sonic characteristics of that label), with no drums or few harmonic instruments (but the inclusion of brass galore -flugelhorn, french horn, trombone, bass trombone and tuba-), Eberhard Weber started to explore the possibilities of dubbing his bass (something he'd been doing all the time on live on stage) and this is the result. With multiple-line melodies, music shines in "too early to leave", "before dawn" or "epilogue", whereas "ready out there" and "just a moment" showcase the musical exquisite touch of this big bass player. Top track: "Seven moments" with great momentum and the brass arrangements at its best. Unfairly rated with 2 stars (out of 5) at "allmusic" due to lack of "pure jazzism", this is not "pure jazz" but pure gold. Unmissable.
