Just wanted to echo Cronholm's review. I finally got my hands on a copy and had a listen for the 1st time this weekend. Thank you Cronholm for taking the time to review this because I am not sure i would have spent the money if I had not read your input on discogs. I talked the guy down and paid $60 for my copy...but had i known how stunning this record is, I think I would have paid 5x that price. I was born in 1978 and missed all this music by the time i came of age. I discovered barefoot jerry and Mac's solo stuff a couple of years ago through the Delta Swamp Rock compilation CD that was released a few years ago. The barefoot Jerry tracks on that comp really caught my attention and i decided to dive deeper. I was a big fan of Mac's other (easier to find) solo records and skyboat records before I even know this McGavock Gayden record existed. I decided to take the plunge and boy am I glad I did. This really is one of the top 10 records I have ever heard. Its special. The recording is gorgeous, the sound quality phenomenal. The musicianship and songwriting are quite literally almost out of this world. This is a cosmic record in the truest sense. If you have found this record or are considering trying to get this record it will not let you down. Listening to this deeply positive record really changed the way I think for the better. When you get the chance to hear something this beautiful stand at attention. Records like this are in part why life is so grand. Bravo Mr. Gayden. Bravo.

It is really weird that this album was only released in the UK .Sadly EMI did no promotion ( can´t remember seeing an ad in Zig Zag or anything...). Already in the late 70s it was hard to find a copy. In 1978 I paid 30 pounds to a guy in Scotland for this album and I never regretted it.I hope that maybe a label like Light In The Attic will reissue it some day.

This is one of the worlds ten best records ever made! I personally regard it as number one!! It feels totally up to date whatever decade you hear it. I have listened to it for 40 years and still think it is fantastic and definitely Mac's best album. If you ever get hold of this album consider yourself lucky! It is a record that is hard to categorize. Rock, world music, bluegrass? Cosmic Tennessian music would probably be the best description. Mac Gayden has played on several well known artists recordings as a studio musician (e.g. Bob Dylans "Blonde On Blonde") and can be heard with his typical slide/wha wha on J J Cale's "Crazy Mama" and Steve Youngs fantasic two albums "Renegade Picker" and "No Place To Fall". He never plays flashy or loud. He almost allways holds back and keep you wanting for more. It is well worth searching for records were he contributes even if you might typically just hear his guitar on one or two tunes. He is virtually unknown for most people but at the very same time well established among the musical elite particularly in Nashville.

By far Mac´s best solo work ! But his guitar/vocals contribution to Barefoot Jerry ´s "Southern Delight" album from 1971 was incredible, too . Did you know that he cowrote "Everlasting Love" which was a smash chart success for Robert Knight in 1967 and later for the Love Affair and Sandra ?

Yep, I agree; his following albums are a bit more variable. This one's his best & a very rare LP too
