Bibio's masterpiece in my opinion - It's an acoustic, electronic, and found-sound marvel that plays out like it was recovered from a cassette in your parent's attic. Impressive guitar picking and animal noises wash through looping nostalgic moodiness. 'Flesh Rots, Pip Sown' has the flutter & highs that could be from lost footage of a 1970's mall opening. Other outstanding tracks include 'Mr & Mrs compost', 'Under the Pier', 'Weekend Wildfire' and 'Top Soil' which sounds fresh despite being a drowsy moment out of time. Its passive and dreamlike vignettes cross genres into some unheard territory. Highest recommendation.

Dear Warp Records, please reissue this CD-only album by Bibio on 2 LP vinyl. Thanks

VIGNETTING THE COMPOST kicks off with what might be the best track of Bibio's career, "Flesh Rots, Pip Sown," a bucolic piece that's as pure as a summer day. Of course, there's plenty of sweet-sounding folk elsewhere, such as the echo-y "Great are the Piths" or "The Ephermeral Bluebell." Bibio also fills the album with scenic moments, like sound paintings: the gentle seaside of "Under the Pier" or the ambient fragment "Torn Under the Window Light." But it's the tracks that combine both of these that really pop, like the dreamy "Amongst the Bark and Fungus" or the string-laden "Thatched."
