This is a solid, yet pretty typical '96 Steve Stoll production. A1, The Thirds, is the definitive standout, with its more emphasized and kicking percussion, plus the acidic bass and the constantly present acid sequence in the background, which never actually quite evolves, but adds to the overall groove. Other then that, this release displays the same old minimal, linear, monotonous Stoll techno goodnes - for those who liked albums like "The blunted boy wonder" and the "Crossroads EP", this should be a safe purchase. Those looking for a more agressive approach to his to techno and acid (stuff like Observer, Hyperrealism, Circuit Sex and his work under the Gaiden project) might want to look elsewhere. That said, of the remaining three tracks on this 12", I enjoy the appropriately titled Floating Point the most. It's the slowest one here, with some really cool aquatic effects, in the vein of Marco Carola's Submarine. You like most of what you've heard on Proper NYC? Then there's no reason for you not to own this, but if you are on the hunt for an undiscovered Steve Stoll master piece, I seriously doubt you will find one here.
