This should be a standard edition to any big band library. Though E.R.S. was not very exciting, The Chesterfield Broadcasts are some of the best examples of The Miller band before he enlisted in the Army. Many thought the band was mediocre, but one listen shows how excellent they were and why they were so popular. This is Miller on the radio. These recordings were taken from glass acetates found in Millers office in New York after his death. No tape machines in the day, and this is how miller would review performances. Acetates have a lot of noise, and the E.R.S. help filter to an extent. There are also guest vocalists on tunes that would be hard or impossible to find elsewhere. Also, there are some pressings that have the incorrect title being "Moonlight Serenade" in the 1-A position. The actual song is "The Slumber Song". This shows up on many LSP-3981(e) which is not a reissue. Moonlight Serenade was not used as the Miller theme in those days during the BMI battle with radio concerning royalties. During this time if a song was associated with BMI, radio didn't play it until radio and BMI came to an agreement. So, Moonlight Serenade would have never been performed for radio broadcast. The Slumber Song was written by Chummy MacGregor and was used in place of Moonlight Serenade briefly. This is likely a typo or oversight. I am told the reissue was corrected with the proper title.
Narim
I believe this is a reissue. If you look at the image of the rear, top right corner, it says "re" after the Cat #. I have a release without the "re" and it has a different Side 1, Track 1 song.
