This is one of rare SACDs in my collection with carefully mixed titles and is a true hi-end audiophile pearl. It gives a good choice of different music types (Folk, Blues, Singer-Songwriter) of hi-end minded musicians such as Sara K, Steve Strauss or Allan Taylor. Each track can be considered a true audiophile pearl and you should have this disc always on hand once you’re planning to invest into new equipment. Don’t make any buying decision of expensive players, amps or speakers before having them tested with these recordings. The SACD is a hybrid and can also be played on a regular CD-player or can be converted in standard resolution (16b 44kHz) for your home music network. While streaming music now more often than playing from CD, this is another reason for a “must have”: you can very well compare the advantages of streaming versus playing the SACD on a hi-end player. Mr. Pauler maintains perhaps one of best studios in Europe and places emphasis on true hi-end recordings. Every record I have bought from Stockfisch so far is worth its money, especially once on promotion price (i.e. on Amazon.com). But be careful because every single recording will identify without fail weak equipment or a bad setup of your speakers, etc. – BTW, every serious dealer of hi-end equipment should have at least one of these discs on hand when demonstrating equipment. Kindly note that “Closer to Music” is a series and that the a.m. comments will apply to the other discs too.
