There is only one problem with this album: it's a step away. That's why worshippers of 'classic' Planet Funk burn this one. I've tried a simple experiment: showed this one to several friends without telling what it was. Reaction was OK. In some cases people were blown away, in some just noted that music is pretty good. So what do we have here? When 'Planetfunk' released "Illogical conscequence", I couldn't understand how in the hell could they make that much the same record? It was totally "non zero sumness", but the version was not 2.0, more likely something like 1.5. Later I got through and that what should be done with "static". Some songs actually are real killers, some are just a bit greyed out, but, like sepia or B/W photo/movie it only helps when you get the music. Fro me Planet Funk turned their way in an unexpected direction for the second time. I cannot say it was worth and the effort is the best one, but still album is rather good. may be it's not GREAT, but it's another story.

On "Non Zero Sumness", Alex Neri and friends asked us, Where Is The Max? The question about "Static" should be, Where Is The Funk? As minimal is hailed as the new progressive, this album almost completely lacks everything people worshipped the first two albums for. Weak vocal performances, empty basslines, dull songs - an overall uninspired performance. If you are looking for some "Funk", go check out Cicada's album. This one here is a complete dud.
