Ministry / Paul Barker - Fix mp3 album

This is a review of Paul Barkers “Fix This” CD. I feel that is a good title for it. There is so much wrong that needs fixing. Paul is awesome in Ministry but as a front man? Not so much. Everything here sounds dated and I don’t think I’ll ever listen to it again.

Nice film!

It seems to me this video was made by disgruntled ex-employees of Ministry. Don't get me wrong. It's well done using the latest and best video equipment at the time. The new interviews are solid if somewhat biased either way. The concert pieces are well put together. Different footage is combined in them to great effect. And I read online that Al doesn't mind that the drug footage exists.Even though Al/Paul are credited as Executive Producers on the project I think that was in name only. The whole lawsuit thing about final cut might prove this to be true because this video has vendetta written all over it. I mean why else show the scene at the end? We already know he was a heroin addict. And the entire video lulls you into a trance at first then hits you with the hard stuff and then plays mean. I said MEAN not DIRTY! In an interview segment Paul Barker is more subtle saying that, and I'm paraphrasing here, people die if they do drugs. Its telling, too, that Barker's new CD is included with the DVD release of the project and on its website. And I'm still going to get it!Did it put me off of Mr. Jourgensen as the maker probably intended? Yes and no. At first I thought Al was an creep for doing what he did. Then I remembered lesson one: NEVER TRUST A JUNKIE! They will say anything. Especially under the influence. That's whether they're trying to lift you up or put your down. That's not an excuse for the man just a reality. Now we never see him use drugs directly before the incident. But we see him use for 2/3 of the movie so he was more than likely high when this happened.I don't know how mean Al can be. I never dealt with him, just his tour manager who was always aces with me. Do I think the film makers were done an injustice at some point? Definitely. And they had every right to make this video.Considering ALL of the above the viewer must weigh Ministry's music against Al's behavior. Those are the two things we like most about him. His music and his attitude. I think the film makers didn't like when a portion of that 'tude was directed at them. Who does?The film makers intended to bash Al with this but there is a point in an interview with Zlatko Hukic where he says that Al makes him feel a WHOLE RANGE of emotions. This can mean fear, disgust, anger and vengeance. But it can also mean peace, relief, and joy among other things.Do I think Al is that deep?Just listen to Ministry then decide for yourself.

I don't agree with you on everything. While it does show him shooting drugs and so on, the interviews are nothing but nice things to say about Al, even from guys that he still badmouths to this day. Check out his fictional autobiography "The Lost Gospels" where he spends a lot of his time totally bashing his former band mates and calling them 'untalented losers'. If this was true, then why did he keep Paul around for so long? I am not the biggest fan of 'Fix' by any means, as I think it's hard to watch Al shoot up and it's so easy to fast forward through the entire movie as seeing him shoot heroin becomes old quick, but the director was not hired to make a life story about him. He was simply hired to document the Filth Pig tour going by the footage.

I bought the movie and was thoroughly disappointed. Ministry IS Al, and yet he was only glanced upon. I agree about this being a vendetta film, so I suggest reading Al's new biography. I think it's a bit more of an honest representation of what went on during those times than this movie attempted to explain.

Yeah, many rock stars do drugs. Is that what this movie is about? Who knows. Al Jourgensen is an extremely creative and talented artist.

"Al Jourgensen is an extremely creative and talented artist."Well...has been.Honestly he's just a clown nowadays.Maybe, if he could spend some time with Paul again instead of hangin' out with those outdated uncreative trash metal heads, Al might eventually end up with another decent record after ~6 years of complete mediocrity. Actually the DVD is quite boring and only interesting because of some interviews, but the CD is a real gem.The Paul Barker album is certainly way better than anything Al has released since Houses Of The Molé."I talked to Ogre about this fresh idea I had: make a generic thrash metal record and sing about current lame political woes using sesame street lyrics, but I still have all my teeth and wanted songs with a little more bite than that."
