In a male-dominated electronic music scene, a woman's touch is a rare gift and, so far, there have been only a few ones that managed to push through and have an impact across the world. Bristol-based Shanti Celeste is quite the busy bee filling up her schedule with dishing out fresh wax at the Idle Hands record store, co-running the BRSTL record label, organising and promoting underground house and techno parties and also spinning the freshest house wax in clubs around Bristol. It comes as no surprise that she soon got engaged into making production and it's only through hard work and elbow grease that she managed to land her debut EP for the aforementioned BRSTL in the summer of 2013. This brings us to her second release and the first Idle Hands records of 2014, an entirely different creature than her raw house debut from last year. 'Days Like This' takes things to deeper levels where dreamy pad landscapes intertwine with tough kicks, harsh hats and sub bass lines and the main hypnotic vocal line sung by Shanti herself flies in and out of the cosmos. While the title track reigns on Side A, the flipside is home to 'On My Own', a more cosmic incarnation where lazy filtered keys drift along Shanti's seductive voice and a tropical melody line and bubbly delays are kept on the rhythm by abrupt claps, dry kicks, punchy snares and a sublime 808-ish bass loop.
