Notes
The release of this CD was inspired by two concerts presented in conjunction with the Bass Player Fifth Anniversary celebration in 1994. The first concert was held at the Winter NAMM show in January. It featured no less than 17 bassists in a variety of settings from solo to full band (see the May/June '94 Bass Player for details). The second concert, dubbed Basses Loaded, was put together by Dave Pomeroy and took place at the Summer NAMM show in Nashville. Not to be outdone, Pomeroy assembled 21 bass players to perform as the All-Bass Orchestra (see the November '94 issue). All of the bassists featured on this CD performed at one of these concerts.Although both shows were recorded, technical problems and artistic considerations made it impractical to release a recording using only selections from the concerts. Two tracks on this CD were taken from the winter show, but the rest of the program was assembled from studio recordings submitted by the players. All but two of these tracks are presented here for the first time, and listening to this disc will give you a good sense of what it was like to attend the concerts. Even better, it will show you how much amazing music is being made by bass players today. Enjoy!
