From Levande Begravd #7Rättens Krater - Urrah! LP (Conquest of Noise)Rättens Krater’s previous material has been decent enough but nothing that flipped me backwards. So despite my good friend Mika kickstarting the propagandha machine it took me a while before giving their latest offer a proper chance, since then Urrah! basicly has been glued to my turntable. It’s rare a new release get these crazy amounts of spins from me, but god dammit, this is a killer record from start to finish! Rättens Krater could be accused of being a quite traditional post punk band, but there is a nothing retro or nostalgic about their music. The band pull off to levitate influences from the likes of Magazine, Cortex, Warzaw and The Wipers into something coherent and distinct sounding. They even getaway with a Misfits cover, believe it or not: ’Bullet’ transformed to the desolate and spacey ’Silverkillern’. You are treated with the sign of a great band if they provide a convincing reindition of such a classic and possibly overexposed song. The combination of strong and diverse tunes and an obvious small town pride, where the nihilistic lyrics manifest a big fuck off to the cultural blood sucking of the metropoles and modern society at large is uplifting to say the least. It’s been a strong year for Swedish underground music and Rättens Krater have secured a place at the forefront with Urrah!MG
