Chill rhythms with some IDM touches: Opiate's OBJECTS FOR AN IDEAL HOME at times sounds like a soundtrack for a lazy evening at home. Though Knak occasionally structures tracks like Wishmountain-era Herbert ("Toothpaste," for instance, builds up more concrete sounds to make your teeth shine), more often, he offers a sweetly melodic note, like on "PK 50," "Sorry Or Am I?" or "Tennis at Wimbledon." Other tracks, like "Welcome" and "Smile Like Us!" have carefully crafted rhythms that stand out, while "Read-thru Colours" brings an antiquarian feel to the instrumentation, even as "Monday Nightcap" goes interstellar. "Hubble At Hobby Industries" brings a nocturnal mood to the proceedings, while "To Draw A Line" closes things in dreamy, bucolic territory, similar to ISAN's work. It's an open house!
