One of the greatest remixes of all time (and one of the most difficult to track down!!). So twisted and beautifully demented.

The Darkest Star (Holden Dub) is a masterpiece, intelligent and functional and it didn't get the attention it deserves...6/5

Music from the future. James Holden shows us that he lies way ahead of time, making brilliant futuristic music. For me the dub remix is the best song on this vinyl, with a deep minimalistic feeling. Both remixes are superb and should be ranked as some of many Holden highlights. Thanks to Depeche Mode and James Holden for making this. This is perfect music. 5/5

Wow what a nasty nasty record. The remix side has a very unique sound, even for Holden. It has a danceable bass-heavy rhythm driving it and this very catchy, clicking percussion loop that is very infectious. "Tick-a-ti-tick, Tick-i-ti-tah...". Added is the relentless bass throbs. Towards the end of the track Holden builds to unbelievable intensity with noise tactics but its done very well. I would venture to say that this is the best use he's ever made of his new experimental sound. If you play this in a big room prepare to see people's jaw drop. Even the Dub side is excellent. It sounds like some of the early Border Community releases before they went 100% experiemental. I'm so pleased with this entire album I wish I had bought it sooner.

The record is simply evil. Imagine Dave Gahan damned for all eternity and singing a dark lullaby in effort to lure you down to his private suite in Hell... add several layers of dark ethereal, minimal, house and that is what the holden remix sounds like. The Dub is a bit less accessible, but good. James Holden definately improved an already great song.

James Holden does his magic in this outstanding remix. He turns "The Darkest Star" into a brooding spooky progressive minimal monster, which could easily be a soundtrack to some Dracula movie. Dave Gahan's slowed-down vocals are absolutely unbelievable and just add to the dark atmosphere of the remix. Stunning highlight of both Depeche Mode and Holden carreers. Dub on the flip-side isn't as appealing though, it's less atmospheric and focuses more on glitchy minimal production. However, the complex structure of the track is definitely not to be missed.
