Let me start by saying that I'm not a expert on trance. Let me also state that I own no other DJ mixes or artist albums by John Askew. I picked this 2xCD album up on the name and artwork alone... Looked like something I would enjoy; boy was I right. With a name like Skylab (space station) one might expect sci-fi and futuristic qualities present in the music. I guess trance always brings that to the table but the selection of tracks here really do make me feel like I'm zipping through the skies and space. I favor disc 1 a little more but both discs are quite a journey. Standouts for me are Magnesium (Right Face Remix), So Far Away, Turn That Sh*t Up, Old Times, The One You Need (Sonic Element Remix), and Through The Years (Askew Edit)... But really, every track here is steller. Askew brings a nice mix of progressive, uplifitng, tech, and even psy-trance. I also like how he has a few short tracks that are a minute or less... It brings a nice touch of interludes to the sound which most DJ mixes don't really bother with. Bottom line is this THE trance DJ mix of the year in my opinion. Apparently this is the first of a series of Skylab productions... I will be keeping my eyes and ears open for the next installment. Highest recommendation.
