Has this album ever been reissued and remastered from the original master tapes? Every version I've heard, including the latest Island CD "remaster", are poor sounding vinyl transfers declicked to hell and back... This album deserves better, but perhaps Chris "Christopher Lucifer" Blackwell stole the tapes?

Answering myself, this has recently been reissued on CD by Esoteric under the title "Black Flower" and it's "newly re-mastered from the original master tapes" according to the press release. Huzzah!

Brilliant record that reveals many layers on repeat listens. The vocals are 'quirky' and may not be to everyone's taste but the sheer strength of songs like 'Black Flower' bowl you over with the inventiveness on display. Check the bass playing on the that song!Overall the album is chock full of beautiful orchestral arrangements which remind this listener of similar work by Wally Stott on 'Scott 4' by Scott Walker.I managed to get a stone mint UK Pye copy and its a lovely thing indeed, this one is a keeper and one of my highlights of the year. A strange, lovely (DJ Shadow sampled 'Love Suite') unusual, soft focus psychedelic pop album.In truth, I prefer this album to their first two on Island. Much more subtle and gentle, doesn't bash you over the head with the gimmicky sound effects and recording techniques of the time. An album you can put on and leave without needing to skip any tracks. Great stuff.
